1st Year | Machine Tools Lab
Students get a 2 hour training session on the lathe and mill. They work in pairs to turn a small wheel for a lego car and mill a bracket for the lego tricycle.

1st Year | Structural Design Course
Students work in pairs to design and build trusses out of steel and aluminium angle and sheet. The design task can be anything from an offset cantelever to a bridge. They are then tested to destruction in the structures lab.

2nd Year | Integrated Design Project
Students work in multidisciplinary teams to build the mechanics, electronics and code for a line following robot challenge. The task changes with every cohort so prepare to be suprised by what your robot has to do. It often involves identifying, and carrying objects around the arena.

3rd Year | Product Disassembly
Students work in pairs to take apart household products. It provides a good opportunity to learn about choice of material and process in design and manufacture.

3rd Year | Part IIA Project
Students can choose from a range of projects in the 3rd year and often work in teams. These run from February to June.

4th Year | Part IIB Project
4th year project students and are welcome to use any materials and equipment the Dyson Centre has to offer. Feel free to drop by the Dyson Centre Desk to consult our resident technicians on how to approach any practical problems involved.

James Dyson Foundation Bursary
IIB project students can also apply for James Dyson Foundation Undergraduate Bursary to get extra funding for their project. Successful candidates get the opportunity to display their completed project at an annual outreach event in the Dyson Centre known as Dyson Day.
