Learn How to Solder
If you want to do some basic soldering, connecting 2 wires or through-hole soldering to a board, just come to the Dyson Centre Desk and ask for a basic tutorial. For more advanced help and training, see the Electronics Workshop section below.

Electronics Workshop
For specialist electronics help and training, you can visit our Electronics Workshop in the Design and Technical Services division. Just take the staircase by the Dyson Centre Desk up to the top floor and ask.

Equipment and Components
Undergraduates and masters students in Engineering are free to use our electronics bench in the Dyson Centre anytime. The equipment available includes:
- Soldering irons
- Soldering fume extractors
- Single-core wire
- Multi-core wire
- Cabinet of resistors and other components
- Some sensors, screens and microprocessors left over from completed projects
- Oscilloscopes
- Function Generators
- Power Supplies
- VBUs - Virtual Bench units
- Oscilloscopes with protocol analysis (VBUs)
- Signal generators (VBUs)
- Digital input & output devices (VBUs)
- Programmable power supply (Virtual Bench units)
- Multimeter (Virtual Bench units)

Safety
- When soldering you must
- Wear protective glasses
- Use extraction
- Use non-leaded, rosin-free solder
- Use rosin-free solder
- Turn off the equipment once you're finished
- Sweep the desk of debris before you leave
