Equipment and Components
Undergraduates and masters students in Engineering are free to use our electronics bench in the Dyson Centre anytime. The equipment available includes:
- Oscilloscopes
- Function Generators
- Power Supplies
- VBUs - Virtual Bench units
- Soldering irons
- Soldering fume extractors
- Single-core wire
- Multi-core wire
- Cabinet of resistors and other components
- Some sensors, screens and microprocessors left over from completed projects

Learn How to Solder
If you haven't done soldering before and want a basic tutorial in soldering together connecting 2 wires or through-hole soldering
- Read and agree to Risk Assessment 3797 on the Department Risk Assessment App
- Come to the Dyson Centre Desk and ask for a basic tutorial.

Electrical and Information Engineering Teaching Laboratory (EIETL)
A central hub for all courses involving electronics, the electronics teaching lab has soldering stations, components, a full range of testing equipment, PCs and helpful technicians with a wealth of experience. Ask for directions at the Dyson Centre desk if you're not sure how to get there.

Electronics Workshop
For specialist electronics help and training, you can visit our Electronics Workshop in the Design and Technical Services division. Just take the staircase by the Dyson Centre Desk up to the top floor and ask.

Safety
- When soldering you must
- Wear protective glasses
- Use extraction
- Do not use solder containing lead or rosin/colophony
- Do not use flux containing lead or rosin/colophony
- Turn off the equipment once you're finished
- Sweep the desk of debris before you leave
