Laser Cutting
Engineering Undergraduate and Masters students can use our laser cutters for coursework, society projects or personal projects. See below to get started.

Training Process
Laser cutter training must be completed before using the laser cutters.
- Log In with your university account
- Download and read the training document
- Contact the Dyson Helpdesk to arrange a training session
- Once this is complete, review and sign the risk assessment and email it to the Dyson helpdesk quoting the name of the technician who trained you and the date of the run-through
You'll then be free to use the laser cutter for coursework, society projects and personal projects.
The Dyson Helpdesk email address is dyson-helpdesk@eng.cam.ac.uk

Materials & Safety
Safety Warning
You must check with a technician that the material you want to cut is laser-safe before using the laser cutter. PVC for example releases chlorine gas when burnt and that's fatal if inhaled. So PVC obviously can't be cut in our workshop.
