Lathe and Mill

Students are introduced to the lathe and mill in their first year lab course Machine Tools Lab. Undergraduates can request further 1-1 training with a technician for any reason, it can be to make parts for a society project or just for personal interest.

For a one-off project

If you have a one off project in mind, a technician can help you carry it out without getting the full training. Email dyson-helpdesk@eng.cam.ac.uk and share some detail, ideally sketches, of what you want to make.

Full Training

If you want to learn either the lathe and/or mill in full, email dyson-helpdesk@eng.cam.ac.uk and we can arrange a time. Out of term time is ideal as there will be no courses running the the workshop. The training for each machine will be done in 3x 2 hour sessions where you'll learn setup, the different operations and demonstrate your skills in a project.
