Dyson Centre for Engineering Design

None

We are currently building up a stock of tools for you to use on your own projects in the Dyson Centre. Though this will take some time.

(We'd appreciate it if you would please not help yourself to the tools intended for the Structural Design Course or the Integrated Design Project, as it prevents these lab activities running properly if any of the 30 sets of tools are in place for the start of the classes.)

Thus far we have in place (very early days):

  • 2 heavy duty metal working tool boxes containing:
    • 12" hacksaw with 24tpi blade, and blade cover*!
    • Scriber, and tip protector*!
    • 12" ruler (dual metric and imperial) and cover*!
    • 6" junior hacksaws
  • A stock of spares:
    • 12" hacksaws with 24tpi blades, and blade covers*! (4)
    • Spare blades (bi-metal HSS, 24tpi)
    • 6" junior hacksaws
    • Scribers, and tip protectors*! (?)
    • 12" rulers (dual metric and imperial) and covers*! (?)
  • We have also ordered:

We are working on the obvious omissions from the above (list below), but please feel free to highlight other things you think we should be getting:

  • Tape measures
  • Cutting mats
  • Files
  • G-clamps
  • Toolmakers clamps
  • Wood saws
  • Hammers
  • Centre punches
  • Spare taps and dies (for example)
  • Tapping drills (3.3mm, 4.2mm, 6.8mm, 10.2mm - already ordered are 2.5mm, 5.0mm and 8.5mm)
  • Rest of list still to come!

* Note: covers and top protectors prevent people from being stabbed or cut when they put their hands in the toolbox, and prevent tools from scratching each other, so please don't loose them!
